Toning Shaping
Can anyone recommend a device for toning your abs?
I am looking to get my soft belly into shape and to tone up my abs. I am not looking for any kind of get-fit quick scheme but was wondering if anyone uses any kind of equipment or can recommend equipment for abs? I've seen lots of infomercials on things like the ab rocket, contour, and P90X.
I wouldn't suggest any machine to help you out - it's probably going to be a waste of your money in the long run.
If your really not looking for a quick fix - I'd suggest Tai Ch'i. It's a low impact, no equipment necessary kind of exercise that has demonstrated tremendous health benefits: directing you to your ideal body weight (purportedly able to help the overweight shed pounds and the underweight put them on), improving circulation, encouraging deeper, fuller breathing, improving flexibility, and strengthening the muscles of the abdomen, shoulders, neck, legs, arms, improving posture - not to mention the various non-physical benefits: improved concentration, decreased stress, confidence.
General Tai Ch'i will involve your entire body, while accomplishing your goals in a low-cost (a DVD - perhaps from the library? a friend? - or weekly class at the Y, until you are comfortable enough to practice on your own), low-impact, challenging, rewarding, and healthy way. Seriously read up on the net about The benefits of Tai Ch'i and you will come to understand why it is the national sport of China. It effects you body, emotions, and mind in very positive ways.
The kicker is that it doesn't take any longer than conventional exercises, and if needed can be tailored to be shorter or longer. You will see benefits from it by doing it everyday.
Short of it all is: Don't buy something that you don't really need, probably won't use often, increases the chance of strain and injury, and most likely won't help you reach your goals, when there are centuries of people attesting to efficacy of a set movements which will accomplish what you want and more.
