Why are Google Maps satellite so bad?
Google seems to have all the praise on their cards, but in reality their antennas are very poor for most of the United States. For example, not a square mile of Ottawa County, Michigan, although it is the largest county 243rd of 3141 U.S. counties, can be viewed in high resolution. Google is cheap and lazy, I think. Daniel K above said it has something to do with the number of addresses per square mile, but the Ottawa County has a population density of 455 per square mile, more than 5.5 times that of the United States as a whole (80 per square mile). Furthermore, I was checking on the Ottawa County at Microsoft Virtual Earth and it also has some interesting physical features such as borders Lake Michigan.
