Mat Exercise
Why is it that I can do sit-ups with a pillow (supporting the small of my back), but can't on an exercise mat?
I've tried countless times on a mat or on floorboards but I just can't seem to do it without a pillow supporting the small of my back. I've looked up the various correct techniques yet I can't seem to do sit-ups. This is because I want to join the military and I don't think I can do sit-ups with a pillow supporting my back.
Does anyone know why or if I'm doing something wrong?
I can do crunches fine but not sit-ups.
you should not have started doing sit up with a pillow in the first place. it makes your muscles far too relaxed and softens the exercise so that it does nothing for you abs. try a thin blaket, to ease yourself out of this. you may have a problem with your tailbone, this could cause irritation or pain as you try to exercise like this. but really, using a pillow is cheating. and remember when you reach your knees and start moving back down toward the floor again do not let anything past the small of your back touch the floor. the minute your do this your muscles have time to relax and all your hard work is undone. you have to keep your stomach tense by keeping your back above the ground
