How do you PLAY DEFENSE IN BASKETBALL?
I'm a point guard/shooting guard. I can good handles & I can shoot well. But, I don't have any defense. I have a one on one game next wednesday against a varsity player who's also a point guard.
If I can get past her & get enough space to shoot a jumper, I'm good. But if I can't check her then she's going to be scoring easy baskets. And she can play defense..
How do you check someone properly?
Stand on you tippy toes with your legs stretched out and slide your feet and when that person drive, backpeddle on your tippy toes and keep a hand in that person face. Hugging her and pushing her won't do the trick. And don't always go for the steal. Just stay in front of her and force the missed shot by keeping a hand in her face. And when on defense give her some space if she dont got the jump shot. And always watch right below the chest (no negativity). If you look her in the eye, shes gonna fool you. That area under the chest dont move. So watch that on defense and youll stay in front of her.
