How does the respiratory system, the circulatory system and the nervous system co-ordinate during exercise?
What part does all these body systems play during exercise?
Your brain has determined that you are going to do some kind of exercise and it sends out nerve or electrical impulses to the muscles via a network of nerves and synapses. The intensity of the activity will be determined an the brain as the master regulator will make adjustments to all of the systems. So to run faster the brain sends out impulses to increase the speed and strength of each contraction via the nerves. The muscles are fired through a complex system of chemical reactions. As the muscles are firing it increases the internal core of the body to a maximum level within fifteen minutes of the start of the action. This activity of movement triggers a center in the brain that more oxygen is needed. The respiratory system starts to scoop in more air and passes this into the lungs where it is broken down into oxygen which then is passed into the circulatory system. The oxygen is used in the combustion at the muscular level. As the demand for more air is needed the blood pressure goes up to drive the blood through the system and it will stay up to rate of the heart. All of this is done in nanoseconds by the brain in an automatic response center. The muscles and joints will send feedback to the brain telling it where it is in relation to space and how hard they are working. The eyes will tell the brain where one is in the environment so that it will intern constantly tell the body what to expect. The biofeedback system is significant and truly amazing. From the toes to the hair on ones head all of them send information into the brain to be analyzed instantaneously. The proprioceptive centers in each joint tell the body where it is and what they are doing so one can keep their balance. If the demand is too great for the body it protects itself and starts to shut down. A very marvelous machine!
