Why would one perform reverse flies/shoulder presses standing as opposed to doing them sitting down?
Basically what are the pros and cons of doing the standing variant of a (dumbbell) exercise standing versus sitting?
Sitting while doing shoulder presses or flys will force you to have better form and make it much more difficult to "cheat". Cheat meaning use momentum to get the weight moving. So seated flyes or presses will also force you to use less weight.
Lifting more weight is generally believed to activate more muscle fibers which can result in more growth, strength, ect.
Cheating is sometimes used as an advanced muscle building principle to push past plateaus. Because surrounding muscles can assist the target muscles in moving a heavier weight.
While the seated version is used to somewhat isolate the target muscles, in this case the shoulders.
