Why don't people understand BMI is a poor indicator of health?
i'm a short, naturally heavy person. there was a point in my life where i exercised every weekday and worked a very physical job all weekend every week for 3 years. my doctor said i was in excellent shape, i'd never felt better in my life, and I was boderline "obese" according to BMI. Why is this method still used to calculate "healthy" weight when it doesn't take anything but height and weight into account? no fat percentage, muscle mass, bone density, hydration, or anything taken into account.
It is a rough guide for sedentary people. Factors other than BMI should also be taken into consideration. Such as body fat percentage, waist hip ratio, cardiovascular fitness, Lipids, blood sugar etc.
