What's the proper way to wash and dry these workout clothes?
First, I want to say that the answerers in this forum are very helpful & conscientious. I rarely see a sarcastic answer here...unlike so many other forums. Almost all the answers are helpful in 1 way or another.
I recently bought some relatively costly workout gear ($20 per shirt). I didn't realize the maintenance required for these clothes until I got home and read the labels. They say "line dry." Does this mean I *should* line dry them or that I *must* line dry them? What will happen if I put them in the dryer? Would putting them in the dryer on the low setting make a difference? I live in a small apartment - no room for a clothesline.
The shirts are made out of that material that's supposed to wick sweat away from your body in order to make your workouts more comfortable. They have names like "PlayDry" by Nike, "ClimaCool" by Adidas, and "RapiDry." Does anyone own these kinds of shirts or have knowledge of how they are to be laundered so that they don't get ruined?
Well, it's probably a strong recommendation. Otherwise they might shrink or wrinkle.
Most dryers have a NO-heat setting. If you can use that, this merely blows cool air through the item being dried. But machine drying is not good anyway. You clothes are being tumbled, and smacked about. It wears them out, a little bit each time.
Now about the clothes line thing. You can buy portable and retractable clotheslines at hardware stores. The units are very un-obstrusive when not in use. They don't take up much space in use, and yes, they don't have a lot of capacity. Still, they are very useful. And they generally cost less than $20.
I am surprised that no instructions, beyond the labels, came with these generally expensive products. Can you not write, phone, or email the manufacturer. (Yeah, I know it IS a pain in the 'hard drive'.) Alternately, they might have a web-site with info. And yeah, I know another pain in the...
It you have, say, for example, 3 shirts of one kind, you could try ONE of them in the dryer, and see what the effect is. This will tell you whether you want to risk the others.
Can you not air dry them in you bathroom, above the bathtub, or in the shower?
Sorry I could not be of more help.
